The other side of submission

Image
Image from www.mywedding.co.ug Ephesians 5:24-25: "Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything.  Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her." It's interesting when we, women, sometimes complain about having to submit, we have movements that oppose submission to the husband yet, in summary, the above Bible verse sounds like this to me:  Wife:  submit to him;  Husband:  die for her. Those  tasked to die  do not always complain as much as those tasked to submit! Die to your desires that He who died might live in you  (1 Peter 2:24 paraphrase):   As Christians, we are tasked not to act upon our mundane desires or feelings, but to live and act like Jesus indeed lives within us. For example, when you are very angry at someone and you feel like giving them a piece of your mind, you are not to act upon that feeling. Rather, ...

What is Your Name?

Image
Image from: https://bit.ly/319Rbeg The dictionary definition of “name” states that it's a word or set of words by which a person or thing is known, addressed or referred to. A name is a term used for identification. Your name, in short, is your identity What is leadership? This is the action of leading a group of people or organization. Leadership can also be defined as an act of motivating a group of people to act towards achieving a common goal. Who is a leader? A leader is a person in a group who possesses the combination of personality and leadership skills, which make other people want to follow in his or her direction. According to Adam Alter, an associate professor of marketing at the New York University's Stern school of business and psychology department, your name gives the first impression about you. This is because it is usually the first piece of information that people get about you. That’s why I pose the question: what is your name? Is yo...

Waiting for the "Right One."

Image
Whether there is one right person for each of us or not is not what I intend to talk about today. Rather, in this post I purpose to share my opinion about waiting for the right one . Did you/do you ever find yourself sometimes with this kind of sentiment, "I'm patiently waiting for the right person in order to experience true love, to be loved and to love back, to tap into that genuine care, concern and passion for each other, with whom we shall go through life's mountains and valleys together and come out victorious."? Those moments when you feel like you just can't /couldn't wait for this intimate, intelligent person who totally adores you, which turns out to be such an amazing thing for you to believe. Needless to say, these are some of what constitute the characteristics of the ideal power-couple that we'd all admire. However, there is a something very important: "T here is no greater love than this; to lay down one's lif...

When will this season of singleness end?

Image
The moment I joined campus, I started devouring every “Christian-based” piece of literature about marriage and relationships that I could find.  Arguably, culture has set it quite clearly that, "Go to school, get a job, get married." So, since I still had about three years left before graduation, one of the things I thought I had to invest a good measure of my efforts in was to read, study and acquire as much knowledge as possible about the next season of my life: marriage. Little did I really think about this other thing called 'singleness'.  When I eventually finished school, however, things turned out to have taken a different curve altogether for me: I went to school, graduated, got a job, and then became single! Now, I'd had no idea what this period of my life really was to be like; no one had told about it. It somehow occurred to me that singleness was an unavailable road towards marriage (specially for those that are hoping to some day get marri...
