What to write when your country is bleeding! | Uganda

Image
By Edobor Osasere I am not really good at expressing my feelings, be it the good or the bad ones. In most cases, I let myself either grieve or be happy in that particular moment, then I analyze the feelings later on when that moment has passed. In the midst of chaos, while people are dying at the hands of other people; people who had plans for their tomorrow, just like you and I; people who went out to buy groceries or simply pick up something small and never return. One really wonders what to write. I would have loved to write about children, about fancy places to visit, or about how to better each other as Christians, but you wonder how you start to put words to this white screen when your heart is hurting, when you are in deep sorrow for the loss of innocent civilians. Then I remembered how I have learnt to deal with emotions: 1. Acknowledge how you feel. 2. Allow yourself to grieve . As I am allowing myself to grieve for the unjustified bloodshed in my country, I chose not to go an

What to do when God goes silent | Paralysing Holiness

Thanks to Ngozikaa! on WordPress From this previous article  you might recall that I mentioned that God chose to grow my faith through personal interactions with the Holy Spirit. He spoke to me directly almost every day through dreams, visions, convictions, knowings and His audible voice in times when I didn't have a  pastor or spiritual mentor. With this I found myself heavily relying on the active instruction of God to make any decision in my life, until a couple of years ago when that changed and I could only hear from God through His written word in the bible. You can't imagine how nervous I got every time I needed to make a decision, especially those major decisions, because I was used to God revealing things to me beforehand, and the Holy Spirit advising me on most things; but now, there was nothing, only silence. I cried, I prayed, I fasted, I begged the Lord for instruction, but all I got was a calm silence. Then I realized  that I needed to learn more about God's s

Are you sure you know you? | Priorities

Image from www.singleblackmale.org Do you know how cliche it looks when people start a ceremony with "deep" prayer and worship, after which they go ahead to party in a secular manner? Or when you enter a home and you find a big bible at the table, but the people in that home are living like they don't know a single thing about what that bible says? Or when we say a prayer for journey mercies while setting off for a long trip, and there after we start drinking and being immoral along the way? Or when someone wears a big rosary, but behaves like they've never met Christ? Or they have a bumper sticker that says, "Love one another," but they spit hate at every turn they make? I remember holding these conversations with friends as we went ahead to describe other believers as hypocritical Christians.  A few weeks ago, the Holy Spirit, with a heavy sadness, reminded me of a phrase from Enid Mercy's Book, Imitators of God .  " What you say you prioritize Vs

Challenges of growing African Natural Hair

Bad Hair Day Image by Chris Strach on shorturl.at/mqw59 In a previous article I shared about the reasons to love and grow your natural African hair, and I'm grateful to God that the article performed extremely well, whereby it featured twice in a National Newspaper and is also one of the most viewed articles on this blog. The personal feedback I got from a number of fellow young ladies trying to rethink their hair-do's was also amazing. We bless the Lord that he heard us so wonderfully and beautifully. While growing your African hair in its natural form is freeing, among other benefits, it also has a number of challenges, which I will bring to light in this article to help everyone who is either starting or already growing their natural hair. 1. Stagnation   Image from bglh-marketplace.com Yes, you will get frustrated as you are trying to do from A to Z to get your hair healthy and long, you will most likely get frustrated because you have set "Instagram standa
