Overworked yet Underpaid, Solution.

Yes I agree with you, I might not be the perfect person to offer the solution, for the sorrow of being overworked but underpaid However you can still hear me out, please do.

Since the percentage of graduates who are able to get jobs every year is very low, about 20%, many employees are in this sad situation of being overworked and underpaid since they are even lucky to have a job.
However even with some of the best paying jobs, we are still underpaid especially in Uganda.

Most people work for at least 8 hours a weekday, and spend about 2 hours commuting, making it 10 hours, then sleep for also 10 hours per night making it 20 hours each day then we are left with only 4 hours of our lives and a weekend to live; to have quality family time, spiritual growth, give back to community, read, go back to school, relax, exercise, keep up with work assignments and follow up the side hustle.

If you spend more than 8hours at work, that is about 70% of your living (awake time) I believe their is no money enough to compensate for that.
With this I suggest we don't put money value to the services we offer, we ought to work for our bosses with a bigger picture in mind, maybe; to become the lion in that field, or to establish our own company, or to learn good working ethics for our dream job, or to...

The reality of being underpaid will be so heavy on us if our main focus is to pay bills and get by, however if we focus on a time specific bigger picture, we shall almost automatically overwork ourselves. Our bosses won't overwork us, we shall overwork ourselves, because the work is leading us to the bigger picture. Our salary then becomes a "compulsory" appreciation we agreed to receive after every given period of time.

There are very many bigger reasons to work for when you get that job, please find one.
Jacob didn't complain doing the "unmanly work" of cooking red soup, however cooking it so well got him an entire inheritance, how about a widow who over worked herself in the fields of a rich guy known as Boaz and found her self with a brand new marriage; Ruth.

Please share your insights on being overworked and underpaid, success stories and solutions. Will love to hear from you.

  1. I agree with you on whatever you have said. I too I was forced to do a jobs that pays me less than what am ought to get because of the fact that I was lucky to have a job due to the fact that we have very few graduates who get jobs immediately after school. But if we walk with mindset that we are serving for God then we would not be disappointed at any point in our world of working.

  2. I am in total agreement with this. Of course I have found myself working at one of the biggest institutions of learning in the country but under someone, you work a lot and paid less but the ultimate goal I focus unto is my destiny that is yet to unfold along my way so that's the reason I don't quit.

Those biblical examples you have highlighted are quite topical.

Thanks for the write up Diana.
